After dental implant surgery in Melbourne, Florida there are some things you should be careful of after this procedure. It’s best no to disturb the wound after surgery by avoiding:

  • Rinsing
  • Spitting
  • Touching the wound

Bleeding after surgery or redness in the saliva is normal for the first 24 hours. Also, putting gauze on the wound can control excessive bleeding. Swelling is also a normal occurrence after dental implant surgery. By applying ice to the cheek as much as possible during the first 36 hours you will minimize swelling.

You should begin taking pain medication as soon as you feel the local anesthetic wearing off. For moderate pain, 1 or 2 Tylenol or Extra Strength Tylenol may be taken every 3-4 hours. Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) may be taken instead of Tylenol.
